Declan is a manager with Enterprise Ireland, the state agency responsible for the development of indigenous Irish business. He is currently responsible for programmes which enhance collaborative research between industry and the Higher Education sector. In recent roles, he led the promotion of Enterprise Ireland’s company support programmes in Lean Business, and R&D and design innovation, and marketing of Irish sub-supply industries to multinational companies.
Throughout his career he has been committed to helping company start-ups and advocating the business value of applied research and design as enablers of business performance improvement for Irish companies.
Before joining Enterprise Ireland, Declan worked as an engineer in packaging, medical devices and electronics multinational industries. He holds qualifications in engineering (BAI), a management (post-grad diploma) from Trinity College Dublin and a Masters in Engineering from Dublin Institute of Technology. He has excellent German language skills.
He has played an active role over many years on the mechanical & manufacturing committee of Engineers Ireland/ IMechE, and was previously its chairperson.
Family, music and sailing compete for whatever spare time is left.
