Jean Kavanagh Team pofile New Frontiers Entrepreneur Development ProgrammeWhere are you from and how did you get here?

I’m from Dunshaughlin in County Meath. From a young age, I developed a love of sport particularly hockey, running and music which instilled in me a passion for working with people and it was only right that I would pursue a career with Business in DCU. Having not done business since my first year at secondary school, I made the most of college life by getting involved. Some of the highlights were doing an adventure race across Europe called Beg Borrow and Steal for the charity Movember and joining a social entrepreneurship society called Enactus. Here, I found a passion for helping people through innovative, entrepreneurial ways which is what attracted me to my current role!

What is it about business and start-ups that so interests you?

While in college, I was heavily involved in a society called Enactus. Here, I worked with people who are all motivated to raise funds through social entrepreneurship to help societies in need such as ex-prisoners and intellectually disabled people. During this time, I got the opportunity to represent both DCU and Ireland at the Enactus World Cup 2017 where I got the opportunity to work with like-minded people from all over the globe! I feel that people in the startup world are all very self-motivated and it’s an exciting space to be in.

What do you feel are the qualities you bring to the role?

I believe I am an ambitious, enthusiastic, self- motivated individual who has a keen interest in working with people. I feel I’ve quite a varied experience in so many different fields thus far that I can adapt well to different scenarios that will present.
